So the Twinkie is no more and people are going insane and stocking up on the odd American snack.
I tried a Twinkie a few years ago and felt my insides corrode.
American confectionery is quite popular here, mainly the sodas, but the Twinkies remain on the shelves.
Now is the time is ask the Token American a relevant question:

I'm actually partial (was partial...it's so soon) to Ding Dongs. Shut it...little round cakes, with a cream center, covered in a thin layer of chocolate. They used to be individually wrapped in foil and they were delicious. In fact, all Hostess products used to be better.
ReplyDeleteMainly though it's just something people eat as kids and develop a sentimental attachment to. There's nothing particularly special about the taste of Twinkies...the cakes a little salty. Which was great when they actually filled them with cream but over the years the cream has been disappearing.
Twinkies are more iconic than delicious. Local and regional bakeries all make knockoffs of Hostess cakes...Ho Hos, Snowballs, Ding Dongs, Twinkies, Cup Cakes. Mrs. Freshly's Cup Cakes are much better. It's all curb store stuff...road food. I'll take a Hubig's New Orleans Style Pie any day.
The products will be back...folks are already looking into buying the "recipes" and names. They'll just be made in Mexico or someplace outta of the union's reach.
